fishing guides

Fishermen, teachers, naturalists and friends, the guides of Good Hope bring 50 seasons of Inlet experience to your fishing adventure. The names and reputations of our guides are reassuringly familiar to our guests, who often request the same guide season after season, a testament to the bonds formed through shared exploits. Whether they come from generations of coastal fishermen or came up through the ranks on our docks, the thrill and the challenge of the Inlet fishery runs deep in their veins.

In their capable hands, you can participate as much or as little as you choose, knowing that their only wish is to make your experience the most enjoyable and enriching it can be.

Good Hope guiding staff includes the laconic and steady Hans, whose patience and easy smile are as comfortable as a well-worn chair. Net man for back-to-back 60-pounders hooked by the infamous Miller sisters, he’s firmly established in lodge lore. The well-traveled Tyler Mills, who’s also an aspiring back-country ski guide, brings a sense of exploration to his fishing that makes him wise beyond his years.

There’s the Inlet-raised Walkus Brothers, Ted and Dwayne who know every rock, tree, bottom contour, and nuance in the Inlet, plus they’re wonderful people to spend a day with out on the water. Ted has an impressive CD collection on Good Hope IV and look out for Dwayne's 1000 watt smile when he out fishes his brother; Cyril “Sneer” Douglas, with 15 years at Good Hope he is as adept at finding estuary bears as he is salmon. He is also an outstanding teacher for younger children and his patience and enthusiasm have converted many first timers to devoted anglers; and Patrick “Salty Dog” Simmons, pioneer of the Dark Side fishery and connoisseur of both the calm Inlet waters and the rich diversity under the open ocean waves.
