Safety First! Safety Second and Third

Before we go out on the water, we take all Good Hope guests through a complete orientation with our boats and to life on the Inlet, covering everything from boat safety to cutting a cut plug herring to netting fish. Even novices go onto the water prepared. Selected guides carry defibrillators and oxygen onboard, all the boats have first aid kits, and we have a full-time nurse on staff at the lodge. Our treatment room is also well equipped. Plus, all of our guides have at least Level 1 first aid training.

Although we all stay in touch on the radio and usually encourage our U-drive boats to fish using the buddy system, we do have a dedicated Chase boat which is out on the water all of the time to help if needed, and delivering snacks, bait, forgotten sunglasses, and taking that once in a lifetime photo as you hook up that catch of a lifetime.
